Fix Windows XP Internet Connection Problems

From Nuno Navigator

Jump to: navigation, search

When Nuno tries to connect to our servers to download charts computers using XP may try to use older, less secure methods. Our services will refuse to connect and Nuno will be unable to get chart catalogues or charts.

SagePay (our payment processor) no longer accepts these less secure connections. This stops you buying things with credit cards. We recommend you use Chrome instead of IE.

Short Term Fixes

1. Set IE settings. Even if you are not using Internet Explorer as your main browser a lot of software (including Nuno) uses its settings.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options and the Advanced Tab, scroll down to the settings in the picture and un-check the SSL 2.0 and 3.0 options. Then ensure that TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 are checked.

2. Use Chrome instead of IE because it will handle your online payments more securely. Get Chrome

Longer term fix ;-)

We recommend that customers using XP should consider moving to a more modern operating system. If you upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.1 now you get a free upgrade to Windows 10 whenever you want which "future proofs" you to some extent.

If you intend to carry on using XP please ensure you are running the latest version of Internet Explorer Get internet explorer. That link will tell you if you have the latest version applicable to your operating system.
