Import Overlays

Nuno can import and export overlay data in three different formats:

  • The Nuno internal format. This format is ideal for sending overlays to other Nuno users. The main advantages of this format are that it is compact, robust and guarantees that no information will be lost.
  • GPX (the GPS eXchange Format) is an open standard for the interchange of GPS data (waypoints, routes, and tracks). It's been most widely used format by GPS devices and GPS-related software programs for nearly a decade. However, it doesn't support areas or lines, and it won't retain the folder structure of your overlays.
  • KML (or Keyhole Markup Language) is a more modern open standard format originally developed by Google. This is the main format used by Google Earth. Unlike GPX, KML does allow folders and areas - but the format is not as widely supported at the moment.

If you need to import or export overlay information in some other format then we recommend GPSBabel. This is freeware (donations accepted) and runs on most computers. GPSBabel converts waypoints, tracks, and routes between popular GPS receivers and mapping programs. It also has powerful manipulation tools for such data.
